GobyStation User Agreement

Version 1.3 · 6 October 2026

In plain language: GobyStation removes files only when you select them and confirm the removal on screen. Every batch is listed in full before anything happens, the default destination is the Trash, and a record of what was removed is kept on your Mac. You are responsible for reviewing what you confirm and for keeping backups. The software is provided as is, without warranty. This summary is for convenience; the numbered terms below are the agreement.

1. Acceptance

This agreement is between you and the developer of GobyStation ("we", "us"). By clicking I Agree, or by using GobyStation (the "Software"), you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the Software.

2. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software on Mac computers you own or control. The Software is licensed, not sold. All rights not expressly granted remain ours. You may not sell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the Software, and you may not remove or alter its notices.

3. What the Software does — and when it removes anything

The Software scans your Mac and proposes items to remove: caches, logs, applications and their support files, duplicate and large files, startup entries, and similar. Nothing is removed except items you selected, after the Software has shown you what will be removed and you have confirmed on screen. Two removal modes exist:

  • Move to Trash (the default): items go to the macOS Trash and can be taken back out of it until you empty it. Their disk space is freed only when the Trash is emptied.
  • Delete immediately: items are removed permanently, with no undo. This mode only applies if you chose it in Settings.

Items that are already in a Trash cannot be moved there; they are deleted permanently whichever mode is set, and the confirmation says so before you confirm.

The Software keeps a local record of each confirmed removal — when it happened, which mode was used, what the confirmation showed, and which items were removed — in its own Application Support folder: ~/Library/Application Support/GobyStation/ for the direct download, and ~/Library/Containers/com.gobystation.app/Data/Library/Application Support/GobyStation/ for the Mac App Store edition. Settings › Legal › Removal record shows it in the Finder. This record never leaves your Mac.

4. Your responsibilities

  • Review before you confirm. The confirmation lists every item, their count, their size, and the removal mode; a folder whose contents are emptied is listed once, as that folder. What you confirm is what is removed.
  • Keep backups. No cleaning utility is a substitute for a backup such as Time Machine. You are responsible for maintaining backups of data that matters to you.
  • Understand the tools you invoke. Quitting processes, disabling or removing startup jobs, uninstalling applications, and maintenance tasks change how your system and third-party software behave.

5. Privileged helper

Some operations (for example removing applications or files owned by the system, or switching system-wide startup jobs) require administrator rights. In the direct-download edition, the first time such an operation needs it, or when you install it in Settings, macOS asks for an administrator's password and installs a small helper of ours into /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools. It removes files under the same safety rules as the Software, switches system startup jobs, and reads the list of login items macOS keeps for your account, only at your direction. It serves administrator accounts only; on any other account, macOS asks for an administrator's name and password for each such operation instead. You can remove the helper at any time in Settings. The helper accepts commands only from GobyStation and never acts on its own. Items moved to the Trash with administrator rights can be dragged back out of it, but the Finder's Put Back does not know where they came from.

The Mac App Store edition has no such helper and no other way to act with administrator rights: a sandboxed app may not install one. There, operations needing administrator rights are unavailable, and so is quitting other apps.

6. Optional AI assistant

The assistant is off until you configure it with your own provider and credentials. When you ask it about an item, the Software first shows you the exact text it would send, and sends nothing until you press Send. That text holds information about the item — such as names, file paths, sizes, dates, versions, and identifiers, never the contents of your files — and it goes to the provider you configured, under that provider's terms and privacy policy. We operate no server and receive nothing. Assistant answers are generated by a third-party model, may be wrong, and are information, not advice; decisions — including removals — remain yours.

7. Third-party software and trademarks

The Software lists, and at your direction removes or modifies, files belonging to third-party applications, and displays their names and icons to identify them. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any such third party. Mac and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc. All third-party names and marks belong to their owners.

8. Privacy

The Software's privacy practices are described in the accompanying Privacy Statement. In short: everything is processed locally, we collect nothing, and the only data that ever leaves your Mac is what you send through the assistant you configured.

9. Updates and changes

We may update the Software and these terms. If the terms change materially, the Software will show you the new version and ask you to accept it before continuing. The version and date at the top identify the terms you accepted.

10. Disclaimer of warranty

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, THAT IT WILL CORRECTLY IDENTIFY WHICH FILES ARE SAFE TO REMOVE, OR THAT ITS OPERATION WILL NOT AFFECT OTHER SOFTWARE.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW: (A) WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, GOODWILL, OR USE, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SOFTWARE — INCLUDING LOSS OF FILES YOU SELECTED AND CONFIRMED FOR REMOVAL — EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY; AND (B) OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SOFTWARE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SOFTWARE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE OR TEN US DOLLARS (US $10).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, and grant consumers rights that cannot be waived; in those jurisdictions the above applies only to the extent permitted, and nothing in this agreement limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited (such as liability for intent or gross negligence where so provided).

12. Termination

This license ends automatically if you breach these terms, or when you delete the Software. Sections 7, 10, 11, and 13 survive termination.

13. General

This is the entire agreement about the Software and replaces any earlier understanding. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign this agreement. This agreement is written in English. Translations of this agreement and of the surrounding interface are for convenience; the English text governs. This agreement is governed by the law of the jurisdiction in which the developer resides, except where the mandatory consumer-protection law of your place of residence applies instead.

14. Contact

Questions about these terms: use the developer contact given where you obtained the Software — its App Store page for the Mac App Store edition, or https://gobystation.com for the direct download.
